Musicians Marketing and Promotion Workshop

A workshop designed to be offered through blues societies and other arts and music organizations.

This workshop is aimed at helping independent artists carve out their own niche in today's music market. While geared primarily toward blues and roots music promotion, Rusty & Laurie Wright will share music marketing and PR tips that can be adapted for any genre of music. The workshop will include a brief overview of today's independent music industry. Other discussion topics include defining your audience/market, developing a loyal fan base, concert and show promotion tips, website design tips and developing promotional materials for radio, press and gigs. A recommended reading list and list of web resources will also be provided to attendees and there will be a Q&A session. The information for this workshop has been compiled from years of first-hand experience, extensive  research, and advice obtained from PR and radio professionals, promoters and talent buyers.

Whether you are just starting out or are a well-established act, you will come away from this workshop with plenty of creative ideas for expanding your fan base and moving your act to the next level.


The Roots of Rock

A fun festival workshop for blues novices

A recurring comment inspired Rusty and Laurie Wright to put together this fun and interesting workshop for music lovers who enjoy hearing the stories behind the music. A comment the couple often hears at music festivals and concerts is "I didn't realize I liked blues music!"  Rusty and Laurie's usual response is to point out that it's darn near impossible for a person to not like the blues since it's been the foundation for most forms of popular music for more than five decades.


In their workshop The Roots of Rock, Rusty and Laurie share a collection of entertaining, enlightening and sometimes sad anecdotes and trivia about some of the most enduring names in mainstream music and the blues music and musicians they admired, emulated, borrowed and stole from. This workshop includes a "listening list" of recordings as a handout for blues novices wishing to explore and compare the music and artists discussed.

A festival workshop for electric guitarists

Rusty Wright shares tips on how to get great electric guitar tone. Guitars, amps, pickups and effects pedals will be covered. Equipment modifications will also be touched on.
About the presenters

In addition to fronting six-piece blues act, Rusty Wright and Laurie LaCross-Wright operate Sadson Music, which encompasses their music publishing company, independent record label, and live music endeavors. Both have been professional musicians for almost three decades. In addition, Laurie has more than 20 years' experience as a newspaper journalist and music writer and Rusty is a professional audio engineer, session musician, graphic artist and web designer.  They have affiliations with BMI, SoundScan, Sound Exchange, The Grammy Foundation and the Blues Foundation.
