My life has been centered around music since I picked up a guitar at age 10 and began taking lessons so I could sing and accompany myself. I've been a guitar player for decades but really consider myself a singer who plays guitar. I'll be the first to point out that in no way am I a technical virtuoso but I do consider myself a solid rhythm guitarist who knows when to fill in, when to use the guitar as a percussive accent, and when to get the heck out of the way of the other instruments.
I find mixed breed pets more interesting and likable than those with pedigrees - and feel the same way about music. I enjoy it more when it's mixed up and wish the industry didn't place so much emphasis on pigeonholing music by genre.
I love good music gear but am not very knowledgeable about how things work. I can live with that.
I grew up in Davison, Michigan. My parents still live there. After high school I moved to Manistee Michigan & lived there for 8 years but eventually I put everything in storage and lived out of a suitcase for a long time because I was spending most of each year on the road playing music.
Over the years I have played in more bands than I care to remember, and for 13 years made my living playing music - both in bands and as a solo act. I also spent years as a newspaper reporter, columnist and freelance writer but gave that up when I could no longer juggle all of the jobs and projects I had going. I miss writing, but not as much as I would miss playing music.
Rusty and I met in 1993. I owned a music rag called Riff Magazine and interviewed him for one of the first issues. We started dating in late 1996, began playing music together in 1998 and married in 2001 after buying a home in Flint. Life together has been mighty darn good. Our goal is to transition back into playing music full time. It's a daunting thought sometimes but what the hell, life's short and I don't want to waste any of it looking back with regret over the things I wish I'd done. I feel fortunate to have lived a musical life for many years and thanks to my husband Rusty and band mates Dave, Andy, Pete and Eddie I'm having more fun and getting more joy from music than ever before.
